Eyad Houssami is founder of Masrah Ensemble, a nonprofit theater organization in Lebanon, and editor of the English and Arabic editions of Doomed by Hope: Essays on Arab Theatre (Pluto Press and Dar Al Adab, 2012). As a director, he has staged plays by Fornés, Camus, Ionesco, Chekhov, Beckett, and Albee as well as new work by Arab playwrights in Arabic and English. He is also managing editor of Portal 9: Stories and Critical Writing about the City, an Arabic-English cultural journal published in Beirut.
