Margot Ellis was appointed Deputy Commissioner-General for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) on 24 January 2010. In this senior leadership position she supports the Commissioner-General in providing strategic direction and operational leadership for the Agency that supports the relief and development needs of five million Palestine refugees in the West Bank, Gaza, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria.
