Historians, including prominent scholars in Israel, quickly pounced upon Benjamin Netanyahu’s charge that Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem, inspired Hitler to exterminate the Jews of Europe. Aaron Berman is a Professor of History at Hampshire College where he also served as Dean of Faculty/Vice President for Academic Affairs. He is the author of, Nazism the Jews and American Zionism 1933-1948 (1990). His most recent project is a manuscript tentatively titled, First Encounters: The United States and Arab Nationalism 1908-1933.
