The 2012 Amendment to Jordan’s Press and Publications Law: The Jordanian Government’s Stigmatization Campaign against News Websites
On 2 June 2013, a Jordanian news website employee contacted Ahmed Theban, a columnist for Jordan’s al-Rai newspaper. The purpose of the call was to ask Theban to recommend a colleague to serve as the news website’s new editor-in-chief. The offer might have been tantalizing if not for its conditions. Ryan Folio is a 2015 graduate of the Master of Arts in Arab Studies program at Georgetown University's Center for Contemporary Arab Studies. During the 2012-2013 academic year, he was a Fulbright researcher in Jordan, where he investigated the implementation of the country's press law. He will enroll in the J.D. program at Harvard Law School in the fall of 2016.
