While working on a story in Sudan I found myself using my iPhone much more than my professional camera for personal snapshots. Mainly because it is easy, discrete, and has a deep depth of field. David Degner is a photojournalist living in Cairo, Egypt, seeking out interesting stories and ideas. He studied photojournalism and philosophy in Kentucky and interned at a few newspapers and returned to Egypt to freelance. He does not fly around or parachute in and hire fixers. He tries to be the local expert, cultivating long-term relationships, telling untold stories, and giving novel analysis.
