A call by the Hayward gallery has been circulating regarding a second installment of the Jeremy Deller piece, It Is What It Is. Rijin Sahakian

 

 

Rijin Sahakian was born in Baghdad, Iraq. She received her MA in Contemporary Art and Cultural Policy from New York University and serves as founding director of Echo (Sada) for Contemporary Iraqi Art.

I must confess that I had hoped for a different winner – not a head of state or human rights campaigner, but an ordinary, 48-year-old woman, whose distinction was that she had lost her son this year at the tender age of 26.
