The School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP) at the American University of Cairo is currently inviting applications to the fourth round of our program "Building Knowledge in Media Policy for Arab Countries in Transition." The training will be held from September 1 to 10, 2013, in Arabic at the AUC campus in new Cairo.
The program aims at contributing to knowledge gaining and capacity building in the areas of media policy and media reform in the region.
Who Should Attend
- The program is intended for members of civil society organizations, advocates of media reform, journalists and media professionals.
- A group of 20 qualified trainees from Egypt, Libya and Tunisia are selected, taking gender balance into consideration.
- For international applicants, a passport valid for at least six months is required.
- As sessions are taught in Arabic, proven proficiency in written and spoken Arabic is essential to be qualified for the program.
Award
Selected candidates receive full waiver of tuition fees, travel, accommodation and transportation expenses.
Program Structure and Duration
The program is conducted over a period of eight training days. Participants are introduced to a wide range of topics, including:
- Media reform in the transitional context
- Reforming press and ICT legislation
- Internet freedom
- Internet regulation
- Establishment of public service broadcasting models
- Models of nonpublic service broadcasting in the region
- Media policy monitoring and evaluation
- Media management
