Come join Mashallah News for the Dubai launch of the media collective`s first book, Beirut Re-Collected– an anthology of "forgotten" stories from Beirut. One story from the book, “Inhabiting a Grudge,” was recently featured on Jadaliyya.
Three of Mashallah News` co-editors will be present at the launch. In addition to giving a short introduction to the book, we will be joined by a couple of Dubai-based independent editors, including our friends from The State, for a panel discussion about alternative ways of narrating Arab cities. Following the panel discussion, a number of Dubai-based poets, including the very talented Zeina Hachem Beck and Frank Dullaghan, will perform readings from the anthology. There might even be a musical surprise in store.
Copies of "Beirut Re-Collected" will be available for sale at the launch. For those who can`t make it to the event, both the English and French versions of the book are available online at http://www.antoineonline.com/

About Beirut Re-Collected
In Beirut, the boundaries between past, present and future are often blurred. Much has been written already about this wounded, resurrected, cursed and magical city. But what kind of human stories reveal themselves through the cracks of this fascinating metropolis? In this book, authors from Beirut have “encountered” the city to collect some of its lost and forgotten stories. They have traced personal trajectories and found little-known places which together form the pieces of a vast puzzle: modern Beirut with all its nuances. Throughout the book, the stories overlap and echo one another. The memories of an exiled mother, treasures found deep in the sea, an abandoned railway, trompe-l’oeil houses, benevolent mini-bus drivers, a gypsy prince. In Beirut Re-Collected, a new generation of writers and journalists pays tribute to the complexity of the Lebanese capital and to the destinies it has shaped.
