The Edward Said Chair of American Studies

The Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR) at the American University of Beirut is searching for the 2015-2016 Edward Said Chair of American Studies to begin September 1, 2015. CASAR is an interdisciplinary research and academic center that offers an undergraduate minor and a new MA in Transnational American Studies. CASAR hosts visiting lecturers and organizes an international, bi-annual conference. CASAR has a generous endowment from the Alwaleed Foundation and has a mission to increase understanding of America in the Arab world.
The Said Chair should have a distinguished scholarly reputation in American Studies and its related fields. Preferred qualifications include: a demonstrated engagement with the discipline of American Studies, a distinguished research profile in transnational American Studies, an interest in the scholarly intersections of American and Middle East Studies. Degree field is open. The Said Chair should be appointed at the rank of full professor. Outstanding candidates at the rank of advanced associate professor will be considered. For the right candidate, the University is willing to consider a permanent appointment.
The Said Chair will teach undergraduate and graduate courses at CASAR and contribute to the intellectual life of the research center.
