Brief Job Description
The Mentor of Museum Operations is a consultant Advisor hired by the Palestinian Museum Task Force of the Welfare Association. This position will act as a Senior Advisor to the Director of Museum Operations, providing general counsel and guidance on all aspects of operations while the Museum is in its developmental phase.
The Mentor of Museum Operations will work on site over the course of three years. This will permit regular and personal work with the Director of Museum Operations and the Museum’s Leadership team.
Note: This is an advisory position, and all decisions are those of the Director of Museum Operations and/or the Museum Taskforce.
General and Operational Duties and Responsibilities
- Advises the Director of Museum Operations on operational policies, practices, and procedures.
- Monitors operational progress by holding regular meetings with the Director of Museum Operations, physically and virtually on a regular basis.
- Works with programme masterclass professionals in developing training materials and in providing one-on-one mentoring of senior Museum staff.
Supervisory Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides advisory overview, counsel and guidance to the Director of Operations and other members of the Senior Management team as to the performance of their duties, their efficacy, and their adherence to all appropriate policies, practices and directives.
- Makes recommendations on the operational activities of the Leadership team.
- Provides oversight on the short- and long-term range developmental goals to be developed and implemented by the Museum’s Leadership Team.
- Guides and provides support and development opportunities to the Director of Museum Operations.
Financial Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides advice to the Museum’s Leadership Team on the Museum’s fiscal integrity, financial planning and budgeting to ensure that financial controls and procedures are in place to safeguard transparency and accurate reporting.
General Requirements and Qualifications
- A minimum of twenty-five years of progressively responsible operating experience in a museum or related educational/research organization; at least ten years at a senior managerial level with leadership and delegatory responsibilities.
- A degree in a relevant discipline such as museum studies or an advanced degree in business with extensive experience in leadership in the not-for-profit sector, or the equivalent in additional work experience.
- A demonstrated record of professional accomplishments with a broad knowledge of museum operations and start-up training.
- Excellent managerial, planning, organizational and administrative skills; exceptionally strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills; high level of presentation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to provide strong leadership, vision and strategic direction; inspire and motivate staff.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and work within a team and to delegate appropriate responsibilities and authorities while providing appropriate oversight.
- Ability to reside in the West Bank for a three year period.
Nature of Employment and Compensation
- The Mentor is to be hired in accordance with a contract, 3 years in duration.
- Salary is to be negotiated, based on relevant and related experience and education.
- Benefits are to be negotiated but will be competitive for comparable positions at organizations similar in activities and scope in the region.
