The Edward Said Chair of American Studies

The Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for American Studies and Research (CASAR) at the American University of Beirut announces its search for the 2017-2018 Edward Said Chair of American Studies, a one-year appointment to begin August 15, 2017. CASAR is an interdisciplinary research and academic center whose mission is to increase understanding of America in the Arab world. The center offers an undergraduate minor and an MA in Transnational American Studies, sponsors speakers, and hosts a bi-annual international conference. CASAR is funded by a generous endowment from the Alwaleed Foundation.
The Said Chair must have a distinguished scholarly reputation in American Studies and its related fields. Preferred qualifications include: a demonstrated engagement with the discipline of American Studies, a distinguished research profile in transnational American Studies, an interest in the scholarly intersections of American and Middle East Studies. The degree field is open. Outstanding candidates at the rank of full professor and advanced associate professor will be considered.
The Said Chair will teach undergraduate and graduate courses at CASAR and contribute to the intellectual life of the research center.
