[The following statement was issued by Syria`s Lawyers Committee for Freedom on August 31, 2011.]
Today Adnan Mohammad Bakkor, the district attorney in Hama governorate, announced his resignation. He mentioned these reasons:
- Killing of 72 prisoners in The Central Prison of Hama of, they ware peaceful demonstrators and political activists, they were buried in mass graves near Military Headquarters in Hama.
- Burial of 420 bodies in mass graves in the public parks by security forces and shabiha (regime`s armed thugs), they have asked him to issue a testimony that they were killed by armed gangs.
- Random killing of peaceful demonstrators
- Torture inside security branches, number of people killed under torture reached 320, he was forced to issue a permission to bury 17 of them in Khadraa cemetery
- Destroying homes on their residents in Qusour and Hamidieh by the army.
And he also mentioned names of the criminals who were involved in these crimes
We, Syria`s Lawyers Committee for Freedom, and based on our principles in supporting the peaceful revolution of the Syrian people which were declared in the Constitutional Statement. We, and in line with our responsibilities, welcome this resignation and congratulates the district attorney in Hama for his stand refusing the brutal crimes committed by the regime, and we encourage him to continue to provide the information and documents he has.
We also encourage all honorable members in the justice institution who have sworn to support the truth and realize justice to write their names with letters of light in the pages of our free people`s struggle by going back tho their conscience and duty and to announce their refusal of the crimed committed by security gangs and shabiha in Syria.
