Assistant Professor, West/Southwest Asian American Culture

The Departments of Women`s and Gender Studies and American Studies at Rutgers University, New Brunswick invite applications for a tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level in feminist cultural studies of West (Middle East) and Southwest Asia. We encourage applications from innovative scholars whose research and methods contribute to more rigorous and theoretically engaged studies of the
cultures, religions, and populations of West and Southwest Asia within a transnational framework. The committee will consider a range of applications and is particularly interested in studies of literature and culture after 9/11; religion and religious cultures; and/or transnational Asian America or Asians in the Americas, including the Caribbean and Latin America. We welcome interdisciplinary or comparative ethnic studies
scholarship that will contribute to departmental strengths in globalization studies.
The successful candidate will teach in the W&GS graduate program (M.A. and Ph.D.) as well as in the vibrant undergraduate majors. The teaching load for research faculty is 2/2, and junior faculty members receive pre-tenure research leave support. Teaching responsibilities will be distributed between W&GS and American Studies. The successful candidate must hold Ph.D. in a relevant field by the time of appointment and must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching students from diverse backgrounds. Home department will be determined based on the candidate’s particular fields of expertise. The new hire will have opportunities to participate in the vibrant intellectual community fostered at Rutgers, through the Institute for Research on Women, the Center for Race and Ethnicity, the Center for Cultural Analysis, and Rutgers Center for Historical Analysis.
