The Global Council of Concerned Pets: "Time for Animals to Act"
The struggle for animal rights has made significant strides in the last few centuries and while many of our fellow animals still suffer cruelty and slaughter at the hands of humans, many of us are also gravely concerned about human rights and believe that, as conscientious animals, we must defend the rights of humans as well. Our efforts to expose human cruelty and the various genocides perpetrated against our kind must not blind us to global and greater good. Otherwise, we are bound to repeat the tragic mistakes of humans.
If we are to inhabit a world of justice and inter-species harmony, we must look beyond our own species. Therefore, a group of us, concerned cats and dogs (mostly, but our coalition includes some horse communities, as well as turtles, hamsters and house mice) have engaged in informal conversations in the last few months in many parts of the United States and western Europe. We have also solicited the advice of friends and colleagues in other parts of the world. We have come to the conclusion that the time is ripe to initiate an animal movement in defense of human rights. It is incumbent upon those of us who lead privileged and luxurious lives in the first world and who have access to powerful humans to effect change and influence the world of humans to reign in their predatory impulses against other humans.
Being home to some of the planet’s most powerful animals, Manhattan has been chosen as the site of our first founding conference early 2011. If you, or your owner, share our views and concerns consider joining our humanitarian campaign and our newsletter.
