Zeina Maasri
Zeina Maasri (PhD) is a Senior Lecturer (Assistant Professor) and Leader of the interdisciplinary BA degree in War and Conflict at the University of Brighton, United Kingdom. Before taking up her post at Brighton, she was both an independent graphic designer and an academic at the American University of Beirut (1999 – 2016) in Lebanon. She is the author of Off the Wall: Political Posters of the Lebanese Civil War (IB, Tauris 2009) and curator of related travelling exhibitions and online archival resources. Among other publications, Zeina is co-editor with K. Bassil, A. Zaatari and W. Raad of Mapping Sitting: On Portraiture and Photography (2002). She was art director and member of the editorial board of Zawaya, an Arabic periodical on emerging cultural production in the Arab World (Beirut, 2001–2007). As a graphic designer, she has worked in publication design and engaged in collaborative activist projects, including the mapping of the Israeli assault on Lebanon in 2006 and on Gaza in 2008–09.
