Francesca Albanese and Samar Muhareb

Francesca P. Albanese is a human rights lawyer, specialized in refugee issues in the Arab world. She is the Coordinator of the Question of Palestine Program, at legal aid NGO Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development (ARDD) and a Research Affiliate at the Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM), Georgetown University. In the Arab region, she has worked with the Dept. of Legal Affairs of the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and a number of NGOs. Albanese holds degrees from Pisa University (LL.B) and SOAS University (LL.M), and is currently pursuing a PhD in refugee studies (on protracted refugee situations) at the Law School of the University of Amsterdam. She has authored numerous opinions and publications on the Question of Palestine, including, with Lex Takkenberg, the recently published Palestinian Refugees in International Law, Oxford University Press, 2020. 

Samar Muhareb is the Co-founder and Director of Arab Renaissance for Democracy and Development – ARDD. With over 20 years of experience in working for the development and humanitarian sector, Samar is an expert in the field of human rights, refugee affairs, humanitarian response, and women’s empowerment in Jordan and the Middle East. In addition, she actively supports initiatives focusing on political and social reforms in the Arab region. Samar holds a B.A. in Law and a master’s degree in Human Rights and Human Development from the University of Jordan.
