Dr. Nils Hägerdal holds a PhD in Public Policy from Harvard University and is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Strategic Studies at Tufts Fletcher School following similar appointments at the Niehaus Center at Princeton and the Crown Center for Middle East Studies at Brandeis. He is the author of Friend or Foe: Militia Intelligence and Ethnic Violence in the Lebanese Civil War (Columbia University Press, 2021) as well as articles published in outlets including the American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Conflict Resolution, and Mediterranean Politics. Dr. Hägerdal speaks Arabic and spent the 2013-14 academic year as an affiliated researcher at the American University of Beirut.
