Mustafa Saqib

Mustafa Saqib is a Visiting Research Scholar at Rutgers University in Camden and a law lecturer at Herat University in Afghanistan. He obtained his PhD from Marmara University in 2022, focused on comparing local governments and elections in Turkey and Afghanistan. Before starting his master's degree in law at the University of Washington Seattle, he pioneered legal clinical education in Afghanistan in 2011. Mr Saqib has served in the implementation of several legal projects related to the rule of law, human rights, and alternative dispute resolution at Herat University. His research interests include constitutional law, human rights, elections, local governance (such as the article “Local Governance Lessons from Turkey’s System: Enhancing Local Governance in Afghanistan” in Marmara Journal), contemporary legal systems, and comparative law. He is undertaking his fellowship appointment at Rutgers University, Camden, and is currently writing about lessons learned from the Afghanistan democratization process.
