Jan Yasin Sunca is a co-founder and co-chair of the Faculty of Political Sciences at the University of Rojava, in North and East Syria. He obtained a joint Ph.D. degree from Ghent University (Belgium) and Bielefeld University (Germany). He worked and published on international historical sociology of conflicts, revolutionary politics, nationalism and radical and decolonial political theory. Previously, he advised political parties, European institutions, and several NGOs on the relations between the EU, Turkey and the Kurds.
