Nora Elizabeth Barakat is Assistant Professor of History at Stanford University, where she teaches courses on modern Middle East history, the history of capitalism, property and dispossession, and Islamic law. After completing her PhD at UC Berkeley, she taught at Qatar University and New York University Abu Dhabi. She is the co-founder of the OpenGulf and Ottoman Political Economies collaborative research groups.
