Elizabeth M. Perego

Elizabeth M. Perego is an Assistant Professor in the Department of History at Appalachian State University and a historian of the Middle East and Africa. Her research examines the intersection of gender, politics, and culture in the Maghrib and her scholarship especially seeks to identify how ideas surrounding gender and culture reshape power dynamics within the region. Her work has appeared in the Journal of North African Studies and the International Journal of Middle East StudiesHumor and Power in Algeria (Indiana University Press, 2023) is her first monograph.
