Hatem Mohammed Al-Shamea

Hatem Mohammed Al-Shamea is a Yemeni assistant professor of English literature. His research includes English language and English literature (Medieval, romantic, and Victorian literature); marginality; African literature; violence inthe Middle East; politics; terrorism; religion; gender; and colonialism and decolonialism. Lately, he finished hispostdoctoral research at the University of Reading, which engaged in English Literature, translation, politics, identities, terrorism, and diaspora. He received his AFHEA (Associate Fellowship) certificate accredited by UK Higher Education from the University of Reading in August 2023. Al-Shamea has published extensively, authoring six books and many articles showcasing expertise in Black literature, children's literature, Islamic studies, and more. He has translated over eleven literary books and several short stories, poems, and plays. He is an active member of prestigious academic associations and has served as head of referees for a national literary prize. He is passionate about using literature and language to promote diversity, inclusion, and refugee settlement for groups from the MENA and Ukraine. He has taught comparative literature and translation courses and has completed a HE-accredited teaching program.
