Diya Abdo

 

Diya Abdo is Associate Professor of English and Chair of the Department of English and Creative Writing at Guilford College in Greensboro, North Carolina. She is a first-generation Palestinian born and raised in Jordan. She enjoys teaching and writing creatively, publically and academically about Arab women writers, Arab and Islamic Feminisms and the intersections of gender, political identity and vocation.  Her academic essays have appeared in Journal of Lesbian Studies, Life Writing, Pacific Coast Philology, Frontiers: A Journal of Women Studies, Image and Narrative, among others, as well as in anthologies and collections. Her creative writing has appeared in Storm Cellar and 27 Views of Greensboro and is forthcoming in J Journal: New Writings on Justice. Her piece "Bad Girl" received the Honorable Mention Award for Creative Non-Fiction in the Center for Women Writers’ 2015 International Literary Awards. Her public essays have appeared in The Feminist Wire, The Electronic Intifada, and Jadaliyya.
