Firat Bozcali is a PhD candidate in the Department of Anthropology at Stanford University. He is interested in political economy and geography of state-formation in the Turkish border zones. His research focuses on smuggling networks, exploring the ways in which governmental binaries such as formal/informal, official/unofficial, legal/illegal, licit/illicit and private/public are produced and experienced in and by various modern technologies of power. He received a BA in Political Science and Sociology from Boğaziçi University and an MA in Near Eastern Studies from New York University.
