Nicholas Glastonbury and Defne Kadıoğlu
Nicholas Glastonbury is a translator and a doctoral student in cultural anthropology at The Graduate Center of The City University of New York. His research interests include Turkish and Kurdish nationalisms, queer studies, violence, law, affect, and political ecology. He is a co-editor of Jadaliyya`s Turkey Media Roundup and Turkey page.
Defne Kadıoğlu Polat is a 2015/2016 Mercator-Istanbul Policy center Fellow at Sabancı University. She graduated from the University of Düsseldorf’s Social Sciences Department and obtained her Master’s degree from the University of Essex in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights. In 2008 she moved to Istanbul. After a year of work in civil society she assumed her PhD Studies at Boğaziçi University in the Department of Political Science and International Relations. For her dissertation she focused on the gentrification of an immigrant-heavy neighborhood in Berlin. Her current research focuses on the nexus between social inequality and neoliberal urban governance, more particularly on the relation between racism, class and gentrification.
