Nurcan Baysal is an activist and writer from Diyarbakır. She was previously employed at the UNDP for more than ten years. Her current work focuses on poverty, development, and various aspects of the Kurdish issue, including forced migration, reconciliation, and paramilitary forces. She is a founding member of the Diyarbakir Political and Social Research Institute (DISA) and serves as advisor and board member to many non-profit organizations such as the Global Fund for Women, Women Labor and Employment Initiative Platform, Urgent Action Fund, and the platform to save women kidnapped by ISIS. She was the recipient of the Women`s World Summit Foundation (WWSF) award in 2010. She is a weekly columnist for T24 and author of the books O Gün (That Day, 2014) and Kürdistan’da Sivil Toplum (Civil Society in Kurdistan, co-written with Şeyhmus Diken, 2015). Her most recent book, Yezidis: 73. Ferman (Yezidis: 73rd Edict), on Yezidi women and the crimes of ISIS, was published by İletişim in 2016.
