Lara Deeb and Jessica Winegar

 

Lara Deeb is Professor and Chair of Anthropology at Scripps College. She is the author of An Enchanted Modern: Gender and Public Piety in Shi`i Lebanon (Princeton, 2006) and co-author, with Mona Harb, of Leisurely Islam: Negotiating Geography and Morality in Shi`ite South Beirut (Princeton, 2013). She is also co-author, with Jessica Winegar, of Anthropology’s Politics: Disciplining the Middle East (Stanford, 2015).

Jessica Winegar is Harold F. and Virginia Anderson Chair and Associate Professor of Anthropology at Northwestern University. She writes on arts and cultural production in the Middle East, including the book Creative Reckonings: The Politics of Art and Culture in Contemporary Egypt (Stanford, 2006). She is also co-author, with Lara Deeb, of Anthropology’s Politics: Disciplining the Middle East (Stanford, 2015).
