Cihan Tugal

Cihan Tuğal is professor of sociology at the University of California, Berkeley. He has also served as a visiting professor at Koç University and the University of California, San Diego. He completed his PhD in Sociology at the University of Michigan. His research interests include political sociology, economic sociology and development; and Islam and the Middle East. His current research focuses on populism, the radical right and neoliberalism in the U.S. and the Middle East. [He is the author of Caring for the Poor (Routledge, 2017); The Fall of the Turkish Model: How the Arab Uprisings Brought Down Islamic Liberalism (Verso, 2016); and Passive Revolution: Absorbing the Islamic Challenge to Capitalism (Stanford University Press, 2009).
