Scott Savran

Scott Savran is a specialist of early Islamic history, whose research analyzes the role of identity construction in Islamic historiography. He obtained his Ph.D. in history from the University of Wisconsin. As a graduate student, he was the recipient of CASA and Mosse fellowships, which gave him the opportunity to study language and research in Cairo and Jerusalem. Between 2012-2014, he was a visiting assistant professor of history at Virginia Tech. Between 2014-2016, he was an assistant professor of history at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan. In 2016, he participated in a collaborative research project at the Center for Advanced Study of Language (CASL) at the University of Maryland analyzing the use of language and history in ISIL propaganda. He is currently teaching history in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program at the King Abdullah Academy in Herndon, VA.
