Mona Fawaz, Ahmad Gharbieh, Mona Harb, and Dounia Salamé

Mona Fawaz is professor of urban studies and planning, the coordinator of the masters in urban planning, policy, and design at the American University of Beirut. She writes about urban history and historiography, social and spatial justice, informality and the law, property and space, as well as planning practice, theory, and pedagogy. She researches, teaches, and advocates for more inclusive cities.

Ahmad Gharbieh is assistant professor of graphic design at the American University of Beirut. His scholarly work explores mapping as a method of researching, representing, and analyzing socio-spatial phenomena. His work in critical cartography has covered many subjects including urban security, public space, and, most recently, refugee practices in the city.

Mona Harb is professor of urban studies and politics at the American University of Beirut. She is the author of many publications on urban governance, cultural geography and piety, decentralization and regional planning, and urban activism. She is currently investigating forced displacement and local politics during the Syrian refugee crisis in Lebanon.

Dounia Salamé is a researcher in urban issues and currently the coordinator of the Social Justice and the City program at the Issam Fares Institute, American University of Beirut. She is interested in issues of public space, gender, spatial justice, and everyday practices of the city.
