Daniel Drennan ElAwar was adopted from Greater Syria in 1963. He returned in 2004, and taught graphic design and illustration at various Beirut universities from 2004 to 2016. In 2009 he founded the artists’ collective Jamaa Al-Yad. In 2016, he was a research fellow at the Asfari Institute of Civil Society and Citizenship, focusing on issues of displacement, dispossession, and disinheritance. He currently is an assistant professor of Illustration at Emily Carr University, Vancouver, Canada.
