Egyptians abroad prepare to submit their polling forms as the second round of Egypt`s parliamentary elections gets under way.
Amr El-Agamawy, the executive director of the Cabinet’s Information and Decision Support Centre (IDSC) and a member of the Coordinating Committee for Elections, stated that of the Egyptians abroad who have the right to vote in the second round of Egypt`s parliamentary elections, Seventy-eight per cent have already obtained their forms from the Supreme Electoral Committee’s (SEC) website.
The IDSC director recognised, in a statement to the Middle East News Agency on Tuesday, that of the Egyptians living abroad, those working in Saudi Arabia made the largest showing at the polls followed by those in Kuwait then the UAE, Qatar, and the USA respectively.
He also stated that Egypt’s embassies and consulates will count the ballots and declare the results before handing them over to the SEC on Thursday. After which, the ballots will be recounted within their corresponding electoral districts – ascertained from the voters national ID card.
Egyptians at home will head to the polls on Wednesday and Thursday in the second round of Egypt`s first post-Mubarak parliamentary elections which will see a People`s Assembly (parliament`s lower house) voted in by January and a Shura Council (upper house) by March 2012.
