Revolution Continues candidate in Sharqiya fell into a coma from head trauma suffered after being attacked by military police outside polling station Wednesday night.
The Revolution Continues Alliance (RCA) announced that one of its list candidates, Yasser El-Rafai, in Sharqiya Governorate’s first district has been admitted to hospital due to injuries he sustained Wednesday night when he was attacked by military police.
According to eye witnesses, El-Rafai was prevented from entering one of the polling stations in Sharqiya’s first district to observe the voting process by the military police officer in charge, despite having an authorised permit.
Eye witnesses added that when El-Rafai insisted on entering the polling station, the military police officer ordered his conscripts to attack him. The RCA candidate was subsequently beaten until he lost consciousness. Following the attack, El-Rafai was transferred to Zagazig University Hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit.
The RCA candidate slipped into a coma, but reawakened shortly afterward. According to preliminary medical reports, El-Rafai is currently suffering from a concussion.
Officials have yet to make any statements regarding the attack on El-Rafai.
