Tents are set up in Tahrir as protesters show solidarity with family of Egypt revolution martyrs.
Several tents have been set to occupy Tahrir Square’s central Island where thousands protested Friday against military violations and rule. The square, however, is open for traffic to flow normally again as the numbers remaining in Tahrir are very few.
Several of the participating movements, including the April 6 Movement, declared that they will not be staging a sit-in and announced their withdrawal late Friday evening. Nevertheless, a few protesters declared a new sit-in, in solidarity with martyrs’ families, while others insisted they will not be leaving the square until the military hands over power to a civil government.
Egypt’s ruling military council has promised to hand over power end of June 2012. However, many Egyptians are demanding an earlier handover as security forces have caused the deaths of hundreds and the injury of thousands in the short time period since the military took over power.
Others also remain sceptical about whether the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces is willing to give up its authority as Egypt’s ruling power.
