Viennoise Hotel, Cairo, Egypt
Sixth Floor is a group exhibition that investigates concepts of memory in exciting and experimental ways. Egyptian artist and curator Yara Mekawei invited artists working in unconventional media to tackle her proposed theme. For instance, Heba El Aziz presented a bio-art work that explores how people become icons. The bacteria she used changed the colors of the images through biological and chemical reactions over the span of the exhibition. Nevine Farghaly designed an interactive sculpture built entirely of discarded metal objects and old telephones sets. Some artists reflected on personal memories, while others dealt with ongoing political developments and the Egyptian revolution.
The following artists took part in the exhibition: Jackline George, Omnia Salah, MonaLiza Bridges, Samih El Tawil, Mohamed Shokry, Mina Nasr, Basem Samir, Nevine Farghaly, Heba El Aziz, Mahmoud Tarik, Hanan El Sheikh, Khaled Akl, Karim Al Husseini, Ahmed Mohsen Mansour, Nouran Sherif, Rami Abadir, Mohamed Taymour, Ibrahim Reda, Mai El Shazly, Ahmed Soliman, Moustapha Ashraf, and Mohamed Moniseer.
