[The following press release was issued on 22 October 2014 by Watch/Raqeb]
-Watch/Raqeb- is pleased to announce the launch of its website www.watchinfo.org. Led by a community of youth from several Arab countries, including Egypt, Palestine, and Saudi Arabia, -Watch/Raqeb- is a multi-layered effort to offer Arab citizens a nuanced perspective on how international politics are playing out in the Middle East. It seeks to enhance and nuance public knowledge and to support greater popular participation in deliberating future and existing policies in Arab countries.
Guiding the project’s mission is strong belief in Arab citizens’ right to knowledge and equitable access to information. That right is essential to the ability of each citizen to participate in decision-making on significant public policy debates and to hold his/her own government accountable. For marginalized communities in the Arab world, engaging effectively with the challenges of this volatile global environment is not possible without a critical understanding of the complex realities shaping the relationship between the region and the rest of the world.
-Watch/Raqeb- is a multi-layered effort to offer Arab citizens a nuanced perspective on how international politics are playing out in the Middle East. It seeks to bring into focus the work of institutions that inform decision-making in countries affecting the Arab region’s domestic and international politics, including the United States of America, members of the European Union, and the Occupying state of Israel.
-Watch/Raqeb- translates research, official reports, articles, and news items, and makes these resources available to pan-Arab readers in both Arabic and English. The resources available on the website cover a wide range of topics, including Arab armies, economic development, Islamist movements, regional security, the Palestinian cause, and the Arab revolutions.
-Watch/Raqeb- strives to advance positive social change by making knowledge accessible to Arab citizens and shattering all the walls restricting popular participation and citizens’ empowerment.
