NEH Fellowship for Scholars Conducting Field-Based Humanities Research in Palestine

PARC announces its sixth National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) competition for scholars conducting field-based research in Palestine in the humanities or research with a humanistic approach. Applicants must be scholars who have earned their PhD or completed their professional training. The program is open to U.S. scholars and scholars who have lived in the United States for a minimum of three years immediately preceding the application deadline. 2018 Faculty Development Seminar

PARC announces its ninth annual Faculty Development Seminar (FDS) on Palestine. This two-week travel seminar is for U.S. faculty members from any field of study who have a demonstrated interest in, but little travel experience to, Palestine. The program will host 10 to 12 U.S. faculty members to participate in Jerusalem-based activities that will include roundtable discussions; visits to Palestinian universities, research institutes, and cultural and civil society organizations; tours of historic cities; as well as meetings with Palestinian colleagues. The program will host 10 to 12 U.S. journalism/film/ communications/media faculty members to participate in Jerusalem-based activities that will include roundtable discussions; visits to university media departments, local media outlets, and cultural and civil society organizations; tours of historic cities; as well as meetings with Palestinian scholars and members of the Palestinian media community and civil society. Fellowship awards are for a minimum of four and a maximum of eight consecutive months
Selected fellows are awarded $4,200 per month of the award
Information about the fellowship competition:
- Fields of study include, but are not limited to, history, philosophy, religious studies, literature, literary criticism, and visual and performing arts. In addition, research that embraces a humanistic approach and methods will be considered.
- Applicants must be scholars who have earned their PhD or completed their professional training.
- Applicants must propose a minimum of four and a maximum of eight consecutive months of research that take place in the West Bank.
- Selected fellows must work on their research full-time during their period of funding.
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens or have lived in the United States for a minimum of three years immediately preceding the application deadline.

Fellowship awards from $6,000 - $9,000
The Palestinian American Research Center (PARC) announces its 19th annual U.S. Research Fellowship competition for doctoral students or scholars who have earned their PhD.
Information about the fellowship competition:
- Research must contribute to Palestinian studies. Any area of Palestinian studies will be considered, including the humanities, social sciences, law, health, and applied sciences. Purely scientific research is not eligible for this fellowship competition.
- Research must take place in Palestine, Israel, Jordan, or Lebanon.
- PARC funding is limited to one year of research.
- Individual and joint research projects are eligible for this competition.
- Applicants must be U.S. citizens. U.S. permanent residents are not eligible for this competition.*
- Applicants must be PARC members (registration on PARC’s website).
- Former PARC fellows who received grants in the last three years are not eligible to apply.
- Applicants must be scholars who have earned their PhD, established researchers, or full-time doctoral students enrolled in a recognized degree program. Doctoral students must have fulfilled all preliminary requirements for the doctorate degree except the dissertation by the time the research commences. The fellowship will not cover tuition fees. Senior researchers without doctorates but with a record of academic publication are eligible. Applicants with a master's degree may only apply jointly with a post-doctoral scholar.
- Scholars from Minority Serving Institutions are especially encouraged to apply.

The program will host10 to 12 U.S. faculty members to participate in Jerusalem-based activities that will include roundtable discussions; visits to Palestinian universities, research institutes, and cultural and civil society organizations; tours of historic cities; as well as meetings with Palestinian colleagues. Through these activities, participants will learn about the region, deepen their knowledge of their fields of interest in Palestine, and build relationships with Palestinian colleagues and institutions.
Applicants must:
- Be U.S. citizens.
- Be full-time faculty members in any academic discipline, including the humanities, social sciences, law, health, and sciences at recognized U.S. colleges or universities.
- Have a demonstrated interest in Palestine.
- Have little previous travel experience to Palestine.
- Be willing to integrate their experiences from the seminar into their own teaching and/or pursue a joint research project or publication with a Palestinian colleague.
- Be a member of PARC (registration on PARC’s website).
PARC will make all arrangements for the program including hotel, site visits, tours, and meetings with Palestinian colleagues. PARC will cover all expenses for in-country group ground travel, accommodations, and group meals. International travel and personal and free day expenses will be the responsibility of each faculty member and/or his/her university. In cases of demonstrated need, there is limited funding available to cover partial costs for international travel.
Professors from Minority Serving Institutions and Community Colleges are especially encouraged to apply.
PARC will provide a travel stipend of up to $1,000 for airfare for two professors from Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) and one professor from a community college. Funding for these three participants is provided by the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs through an agreement with CAORC.
