THE JOURNAL OF ARABIC LITERATURE:
ARTICLES AND TRANSLATIONS
Call for Submissions: “Palestine as Theory”
DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACTS: AUGUST 15, 2021
Article Abstracts:
The Journal of Arabic Literature invites article submissions focusing on all periods for a special issue on Palestine as theory.
How has Palestinian literature and criticism, as well as the rich body of scholarship that has emerged around it, provided a framework for key theoretical directions in the study of Arabic literature or comparative literature more generally? What does it mean to center Palestine not only as a site of exceptional politics, experience, and history but also as a node of diverse theoretical inquiry across fields and disciplines? How can theorizing Palestine activate new critical possibilities within Arabic literary studies and beyond?
Criticism in Translation Abstracts with Critical Introductions:
We are also seeking previously unpublished translations from Arabic, and hailing from all periods of relevant criticism, literary theory, philosophy, and/or scholarship on the same cluster of topics. Translations should be approximately 5,000-8,000 words long; additionally, you will be asked to produce a rigorous critical introduction to accompany your translation if it is selected. Please also include a PDF or scan of the original Arabic text with your abstract.
Abstracts (300 words) of your article or text to be translated should be sent to JALspecialissues@gmail.com by August 15, 2021.
