A report released by the Landmine & Cluster Munition Monitor, a civil society organization dedicated to global landmine and cluster munition problems, indicated that more than half of the world’s cluster bomb casualties in 2020 were in Syria.
Save the Children: Children Abandoned by their Governments Are ‘Wasting Away’ in Syrian Camps (23 September 2021)
The estimated 40,000 children living in Al Hol and Al Roj camps for displaced people in Northeast Syria face daily risks, including risk from illness and deaths caused by fires, poor water and sanitation, malnutrition, insufficient medical care, violence, limited access to education, and child labor and exploitation. In its report, Save the Children calls upon foreign governments with nationals in Al Hol and Al Roj camps to bring children and families home.
United Nations Human Rights Office: Oral Update on the Extent of Conflict-related deaths in the Syrian Arab Republic (24 September 2021)
According to the United Nations (UN) human rights office, which released its first report on the war’s death toll since 2015, the at least 350,209 people estimated to have been killed during the war is likely an undercount.
WFP: Syria Situation Report #8, August 2021 (27 September 2021)
WFP takes note of significant developments in Syria over the month of August, among them: the continued depreciation of the Syrian pound and a weakening informal exchange rate, continued deterioration of humanitarian conditions in Dar’a al Balad and a 22 percent increase in COVID -19 cases and a five percent increase in deaths since the end of July.
