The Department of English at the American University of Beirut is seeking to fill an open-rank position in gender and women’s studies to begin August 15, 2016. The new hire will be expected to coordinate the development of the university’s initiative in gender and women’s studies as a trans-disciplinary research and educational program. We seek candidates with demonstrated teaching, research, and administrative experience, whose research engages feminist approaches to the study of gender and sexuality, with preferred emphases on the Arab/Muslim world. We invite applicants with PhDs in language and literature studies whose research intersects with disciplines across the humanities and social sciences, including anthropology, sociology, political studies, history, visual culture, and philosophy.
AUB faculty engage in research, teaching, and service. The new hire is expected to teach on the undergraduate and graduate level and to participate in the collegial governance of the Department and University. The teaching load is 3/2 with generous support for junior faculty research and advancement as well as possible course release for administrative duties.
