Benjamin Schuetze and the Middle East Studies Pedagogy Initiative (MESPI)

Benjamin Schuetze is a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Political Science at the University of Freiburg and an associate at the Arnold Bergstraesser Institute (ABI). As part of his PhD research at SOAS, London, he conducted extensive field research in Jordan, Belgium and the USA. His research interests include transregional authoritarian entanglements, critical security studies, the politics of intervention, and the political economy of renewable energies. His publications have appeared in Security DialogueCooperation and ConflictAl-Jazeera and Jadaliyya. His book on Promoting Democracy, Reinforcing Authoritarianism: US and European Policy in Jordan has been published with Cambridge University Press in late 2019.

 

MESPI is a curated interactive platform for ME studies resources specifically tailored for the needs of teachers, researchers, and students. It will be the one-stop shop for course design on the macro level, lesson planning on the micro level, and for scholarship vis-a-vis specific topics, countries, and disciplines.
