Ahmad Sukkar
Ahmad Sukkar is a British Syrian academic, architect, and educator, a Visiting Assistant Professor in Islamic art and architecture, urban conflict, and cultural heritage at the University of Sharjah 2020-21, an Aga Khan Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Architecture and Planning at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology 2019-20, a Middle East Studies Association in North America (MESA) Global Academy Scholar 2019-21, and an associate member of the University College London-led Relief Centre’s Global Associates International Network since 2017. Previously, he was a consultant and a course leader for the Arab Reform Initiative, a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Orient-Institut Beirut, a Visiting Lecturer and an examiner at the University of Cambridge’s Department of Architecture, a Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow at the American University of Beirut, an Imam Bukhari Visiting Research Fellow at the Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies (supported by a Barakat Trust Award), and a teaching and research fellow and a studio lecturer at Damascus University. He has worked at leading architectural offices in Syria and the UK, including Zaha Hadid Architects. He completed his doctorate and a master of research at the University of London in architectural humanities and cultural studies, a master of architecture at the Architectural Association in architecture and urbanism, and a postgraduate diploma and a bachelor degree in architecture at Damascus University. He is a member of several international organizations and professional bodies, and his individual and teamwork research and design have received international awards.
