Lucia Carminati is Associate Professor of Migration History and Middle Eastern History at the University of Oslo. She researches the social and cultural history of Egypt in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries with a special focus on migration and mobility, women's and gender history, and urban and infrastructural transformations. She is the author of Seeking Bread and Fortune in Port Said: Labor Migration and the Making of the Suez Canal, 1859-1906 (University of California Press, 2023).
