Mohammed Almahfali earned his PhD in Arabic Literature from Cairo University in 2014, with his dissertation focusing on textual transformation within modern Arabic novels. His teaching journey began in 2004 at Hadhramout University, where he served as a lecturer until 2009. This led to his appointment as an assistant professor from 2014 to 2016. After this, he was granted a two-year fellowship from the International Institute for Education—Scholar Rescue Fund (IIE-SRF). Between 2017 and 2019, Almahfali was researcher at Lund University’s Centre for Advanced Middle Eastern Studies in Sweden, primarily working on a project titled “Research Advocacy and Public Policymaking in the Arab World.” This project’s core objective was to curate an annotated bibliography dedicated to human rights within the Arab World, and involved reviewing and categorizing over four hundred Arabic-language sources.

In 2023, Almahfali received a second master’s degree in media and communication studies from Malmö University. His research interests span a range of subjects including discourse analysis, literature studies, education, capacity-building within higher education, and the development of sustainable post-conflict recovery strategies for the impending challenges in Yemen. Additionally, his involvement extends to projects that explore the transformative potential of art and media, fostering democracy, advancing gender equity, and promoting social justice within Yemen.
