Lisa Hajjar, Sheila Carapico, Toby C. Jones, and Hesham Sallam

 

Lisa Hajjar is a professor of sociology at the University of California -- Santa Barbara. Her research and writing focus on law and legality, war and conflict, human rights, and torture. She is the author of Courting Conflict: The Israeli Military Court System in the West Bank and Gaza (University of California Press, 2005) and Torture: A Sociology of Violence and Human Rights (Routledge, 2012). In addition to being a Co-Editor at Jadaliyya, she serves on the editorial committees of Middle East Report and Journal of Palestine Studies. She is currently working on a book about anti-torture lawyering in the United States. 

Sheila Carapico is professor of political science at the University of Richmond and the American University in Cairo.

Toby Jones is assistant professor of history at Rutgers University. His scholarship focuses primarily on the political history of the Persian Gulf. Jones has also taught at Swarthmore College and worked as the International Crisis Group’s political analyst of the Persian Gulf, where he wrote about political reform and sectarianism. Jones is author of Desert Kingdom: How Oil and Water Forged Modern Saudi Arabia (Harvard University Press, 2010). He is currently working on a new book project America’s Oil Wars, also to be published by Harvard University Press. His articles have appeared in theInternational Journal of Middle East StudiesMiddle East ReportForeign AffairsForeign Policy, the New York Times, and elsewhere.

Hesham Sallam is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Government at Georgetown University. He is Co-Editor of Jadaliyya Ezine.
