Hanan Abdel Rahman-Rabbani
Hanan Abdel Rahman-Rabbani is the Open Society Foundation’s Senior Program Officer on Women’s Rights and Gender Development in the Arab region, based in Amman, Jordan.
She previously served for four years as a Human Rights Officer and the head of the Amman human rights office of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI). In Palestine during the late 1990s, she managed a pioneering national women’s rights project in the occupied Palestinian Territories, Palestinian Model Parliament: Women and Legislation, which generated substantial national, regional and international attention, and was awarded a French government prize as one of the outstanding human rights projects of the year.
Among other organizations Ms. Rabbani has worked for Al Haq (West Bank affiliate of the International Commission of Jurists), the Women’s Centre for Legal Aid and Counseling (WCLAC), the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA), and as Iraq Advisor for The Friedrich Naumann Foundation’s Arab Regional Office.
