The most significant requirement is for Jadaliyya submissions to be analytically compelling and offer a perspective or argument that has not been covered at length either on Jadaliyya or elsewhere. Because of the volume of submissions, well-written pieces are prioritized. Length is flexible, 1000 to 2500 words is the average range. However, we will accept longer pieces. Once submitted, several members of the editorial committee will review your piece and one of them will inform you of the decision.

Nelida Fuccaro is Reader in the Modern History of the Middle East at the School of Oriental and African Studies. She has published on the history of the modern Iraqi state, with a particular focus on the Yazidi and Kurdish populations of the country, and more recently on the urban history of the Persian Gulf region. She currently works on the history of urban violence in the modern Middle East and on the social and cultural history of the Middle Eastern oil industry. She is the co-editor of Rethinking Public Violence in Modern Middle Eastern Cities: from Empire to Nation State (Berghahm, forthcoming) and has edited a thematic contribution for Comparative Studies in South Asia, Africa, and the Middle East entitled Histories of Oil and Urban Modernity in the Middle East. Her books include Histories of City and State in the Persian Gulf: Manama since 1800 (Cambridge, 2009) and The Other Kurds: Yazidis in Colonial Iraq (I. B. Tauris, 1999).
