Thank you for your interest in Jadaliyya. We welcome all submissions. The most significant requirement is for Jadaliyya submissions to be analytically compelling and offer a perspective or argument that has not been covered at length either on Jadaliyya or elsewhere. Because of the volume of submissions, well-written pieces are prioritized. Length is flexible, 1000 to 2500 words is the average range. However, we will accept longer pieces. Once submitted, several members of the editorial committee will review your piece and one of them will inform you of the decision.

Andrew Gardner and Autumn Watts

 

Andrew Gardner is an associate professor of anthropology at the University of Puget Sound. His scholarship focuses on the Gulf States of the Arabian Peninsula, with interests in transnational labor, environmental anthropology, and the political ecology of both rural and urban peoples of the Arabian Peninsula. He is the author of City of Strangers: Gulf Migration and the Indian Community in Bahrain (Cornell, 2010), and the co-editor of Constructing Qatar: Migrant Narratives from the Margins of the Global System (Smashwords, 2012) and Dispatches from the Field: Neophyte Ethnographers in a Changing World (Waveland Press, 2006).

Autumn Watts is Associate Fiction Editor at Guernica Magazine. She has taught at Cornell, Northwestern, and Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar, and published work in Guernica, Desert Voices, Best New Poets, AGNI Online, and Boston Review, among others. Her piece "The Cities of Animals," illustrated by photographer Kristin Giordano, was selected for the Wigleaf Top 50 Very Short Stories 2012. Currently, she is editing a collection of oral Qatari folktales.
