John L. Esposito is University Professor, Professor of Religion and International Affairs and of Islamic Studies and Founding Director of the Prince Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding. Past President of the American Academy of Religion, the Middle East Studies Association of North America, and the American Council for the Study of Islamic Societies, his more than 55 books include:  Shariah, What Everyone Needs to Know; What Everyone Needs to Know about Islam; The Future of Islam; Who Speaks for Islam?: What a Billion Muslims Really Think; Religion and Violence; Unholy War: Terror in the Name of Islam; The Islamic Threat: Myth or Reality?; Islam and Democracy after the Arab Spring, Islamophobia and the Challenge of Pluralism in the 21st Century. He is Editor-in-Chief of Oxford Islamic Studies Online, The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World, The Oxford History of Islam, and co-editor of The Oxford Handbook of Islam and Politics. Esposito’s writings have been translated into more than 45 languages.

Natana J. DeLong-Bas is the author of Shariah: What Everyone Needs to Know (co-authored with John L. Esposito, 2018), Islam: A Living Faith (2018), Wahhabi Islam: From Revival and Reform to Global Jihad (rev. ed. 2008), Notable Muslims: Muslim Builders of World Civilization and Culture (2006), and Women in Muslim Family Law (co-authored with John L. Esposito, rev. ed., 2001), Editor-in-Chief of The Oxford Encyclopedia of Islam and Women (2013) and Deputy Editor of The Oxford Encyclopedia of the Islamic World and Oxford Islamic Studies Online (2008). Past President of the American Council for the Study of Islamic Societies (ACSIS), she is an expert on Islam, the Arabian Gulf, women and gender, Islamic law, and terrorism and extremism. Associate Professor of the Practice of Theology and Islamic Civilizations and Societies at Boston College, her work has been translated into Arabic, Russian, and French.
