We met in Lyon, France in 2013, introduced by Frédéric Abécassis, a historian of the Maghreb at the École Normal Supérieure de Lyon (ENS). We were both researching Algerians in prison across history, anthropology, and geography.
Marc André and Susan Slyomovics
Marc André is a historian, professor at the University of Rouen, and associated researcher at the Laboratoire de recherches historiques Rhône-Alpes/Lyon (LARHRA), France. His work focuses on the Algerian migration, the Algerian war, and memory studies. His recent book is entitled Femmes dévoilées: Des Algériennes en France à l’heure de la décolonisation [Unveiled Algerian women at the time of decolonization] (ENS Editions, 2016).
Susan Slyomovics is an anthropologist and professor at the University of California, Los Angeles. Her most recent book is How to Accept German Reparations (University of Pennsylvania Press, 2014).
